    ๐Ÿ“– Iterative consent seeking: Building Partnerships Between Indigenous Peoples Communities and the S&T Community

    Cordillera as nest to indigenous communities rich in biodiversity and indigenous knowledge systems and practices (ISPs) remains vulnerable among extractive individuals or groups, researchers included. The peaceful village of Kadaclan in Barlig, Mt. Province was a project site of a DOST-PCHRD funded project implemented from 2018-2021. The project team whose interest lies on the rich biodiversity and indigenous healing practices of the community had ascertained the need and importance of iterative consent seeking throughout the process of project implementation. Accordingly, this process sparked trust and confidence among villagers towards researchers and has slowly built a meaningful collaboration throughout the process. Yet, if not sustained and guarded, this could also lead the other way

    The COVID-19 pandemic has prolonged its course which magnified the vulnerability of the AANR sector that has partly resulted from the use and overuse of natural resources. At the same time, we know enough to act โ€“ from embracing agroecological systems that nurture the ecosystem and rebuilding soil fertility, we are also advocating for the prudent stewardship of natural resources. โ€˜Planetary healthโ€™ has become a byword โ€“ which recognizes that human health and the health of our planet are inextricably linked. This has always been the โ€˜indigenous worldviewโ€™ a lesson that should be captured for sustainable systems.

    The first and second quarter of the Calendar Year 2017 is a big step-up for HAARRDEC in developing new strategies to administer and endorse RDE initiatives in the Region. The conduct of the Strategy Building and Planning Workshop attended by Consortium Member Institutions (CMIs) was held to harmonize our Regional agenda, thus the development of 2017 โ€“ 2022 Science and Technology agenda that parallels to our Consortiumโ€™s 5-year Strategic Plan. One of the emphasis of the Strategic Plan is the development of Information, Education and Communication conduits, which was included in the endorsed proposals for the Science and Technology Action Frontline for Emergencies and Hazards Program of DOST-PCAARRD.
